Each person is different. Some people feel nothing while others may feel a pinch similar to a mosquito bite. Acupuncture needles are about the width of a human hair and nearly 8x thinner than needles used to draw blood.
Absolutely! We go through extensive training on human anatomy, needling depth, needling angles, and contraindications for various conditions. In addition, acupuncturists must pass a national examination on Clean Needle Technique. We also use sterile, solid, one time use needles.
Loose, comfortable clothing is recommended for your treatment. There are over 360 points on the body. I oftentimes need to roll up pants to slightly above the knees, sleeves to the elbows, and may need to access your abdomen or back. I do have gowns available for you to wear as well!
There is no right or wrong way to feel. Some people get tired and sleepy, what we like to call an acu-nap :) while others may feel an energizing/tingling sensation throughout their body. Some feel nothing while others may feel heavy or like they shouldn't move their body. No matter what sensation you feel, the needles are doing their job within your body.
After treatment, some people may feel a little fatigued and I recommend staying hydrated and eating a little snack. Othertimes people feel energized and refreshed. Some notice changes immediately after treatment while others may notice changes a few hours or days later. Every body is unique and this is what is so amazing about our medicine and how individualized treatments are!
Acupuncture is a completely natural form of medicine that promotes the body to heal itself. Some potential side effects include slight bruising or bleeding at the insertion sight, fatigue, and dizziness.
More common side effects include: more energy, better sleep, mental clarity, less stress, better digestion, balanced mood, pain relief and less muscle tension!
Acupuncture works best by building upon each treatment. Every person's case is different and individualized. However, a good rule of thumb is that the more complex the symptoms are and the longer they have been around, the more treatments it will take to see lasting results. People typically start to notice changes within the first couple treatments but it could take up to 4-5 treatments. I will work alongside you during each treatment to see what changes have been made and will adjust your treatment accordingly each and every appointment.
Equilibrium Acupuncture accepts check, cash, cards, and Flex Sending funds. We do not accept insurace. However, I am more than happy to print you a superbill for you to send into your company for reimbursement.
